Another busy week!

Well done to all the children for a fabulous sports day, you all really impressed us.

This week in English we have been looking at Non chronological report writing. We have chosen to write them on the topic of the Vikings, for cross curriculum links. The children learnt about all the features required to make the text effective- sub headings, title, pictures or diagrams related to the text and topic sentences. We looked at lots of example of non chronological reports so they could spot the features for themselves. Then we moved onto the language features and what type of language was needed. Why not ask your children what generalisers are?

Next week, we are continuing with our reports and the children are going to choose their own Viking questions to research. Some children have already said they want to learn more about their longboats, fighting techniques in battle and more about their alphabet. We look forward to reading what the children come up with. Why not look out for it at open evening?

In Maths in Mrs Mercer's and Mrs Gaines set we have been looking at time. The children have been practising how to read both analogue and digit clocks, how to draw the hands accurately and we even made our own clocks to help us with number of minutes past. We have asked the children to practise looking at the clocks at home and reading the time at different times of the day. You could help your child by asking them to tell you the time or say things like- If we leave the house in 20 minutes for Brownies, what time will it be? If you started watching television at 3.50 and stopped at 4.30, how long were you watching television for? There are lots of interactive games which they could play on, see below for the links.

Telling the time

In Mr Clifford's set they have been learning about measures

In Science we have learning about light and reflections. This week we discussed how we can be safe in the sun by wearing sun glasses and never look directly at the sun. We discussed how we should avoid midday sun and wear sun glasses with UV protection. The children then created poster to remind themselves how to be safe this summer, so let's hope this sunshine continues!

In PE the children continue to enjoy athletics and really enjoyed the sports they played in the morning of sports day. Please ensure your child's PE kit stays in school for the next two weeks.

This week for homework we set spellings as usual and we chose to set a mymaths online homework to practise some number skills. Please ensure that your child has completed it by Tuesday 11th July (this Tuesday)

We hope you have enjoyed some safe sunshine this weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Thursday for open evening.

The year 3 team
